Our Top Tips for a Yeast Infection Diet

In light of new medical research we have discovered that candida (a type of yeast) is the culprit of a large amount of modern day illnesses. This fungi/ bacteria is present in our bodies but when their balance outweighs the number of good bacteria, which help to keep the candida at bay, we start to experience a variety of short and long term health problems if the issue is not addressed and dealt with. One of the top ways to manage and overcome yeast infection is with an appropriate yeast-free diet.

We have been hearing for a while now that a good diet and moderate exercise are the keys to long term good health, well this is most definitely true, especially in the case of the diet. Having a good diet not only makes us feel good but without it we open ourselves up to the possibility serious health consequences. If the foods you are eating are upsetting the internal balance of bacteria causing an overpopulation of candida this creates an acidic environment which prevents the body from storing and using nutrients and also limits the production of enzymes which make digestive proteins.

So what does this mean for the body? In this circumstance the sufferer may experience uncomfortable gas and bloating, have a painful feeling in their intestines and feel sensitive to specific foods. Following an extremely regimented diet is the only way to be sure of curing the problem. In addition to this, the longer you leave it (that is live with the candida problem) the longer it is going to take you to get rid of it. Say you live with candida symptoms for 10 years you need to be on the diet for 1 month for each of those years, so 10 months.

Basically the only way to kill the yeast off is to starve it. Certain foods feed candida so these have to be completely eliminated, one step backwards by consuming something you shouldn’t and you cause the yeast to grow again. Avoiding processed sugary foods is your first absolute must as sugar feeds candida, but the rest of the diet is also rather restrictive. Looking on the bright side, the diet is getting back to natural, basic and healthy ways of eating so you should feel and even look better after following the diet for just a few weeks or less.

If you feel that the diet is not quite giving you your nutrient requirements then it may be a good idea to supplement. You should make the largest proportion of your meal (around 65%) consist of high fibre foods but only those from steamed vegetables and in particular the fresh green vegetables.  High protein foods should make up 20% of your diet include lean meats like chicken, fish and lean beef. Complex carbohydrates should comprise 10% of your meal (some meals can be completely free of complex carbohydrates) and be sure to limit these to brown rice, wholegrain oats and beans. Fresh fruit should comprise only 5% of your diet, this is because fructose is one of the sugars which can feed candida so stick to low sugar fruits such as apples, berries, strawberries, grapefruit and papaya.

If I wrote out the list of foods you had to avoid it would seem like you cant eat anything! So I find it better to include lists of foods you can eat so you can actively seek them out when shopping.

Acceptable grains
For grains stay away from wheat, stick to whole barley, buckwheat, brown rice, quinoa, spelt, corn.
Acceptable dairy and dairy substitutes
Soy link, almond milk, plain yoghurt with acidophilus (a good bacteria which fights candida)

Acceptable vegetables
Anything that is green and leafy, including broccoli, brussell sprouts, kale, spinach, green pepper, zucchini.

Acceptable meat/protein sources
Chicken, fish, all wild game meat, organic lamb and beef, turkey, eggs.

Nuts are ok but stay away from peanuts and pistachios. Also watch out for coffee and try to have malt free soy milk, some places also have chlorine in the water system which can contribute to an internal acidic environment which will feed candida so distilled water may be a good option.

If you follow a solid and regimented anti candida diet you should be able to free yourself of the symptoms. Also beware that taking antibiotics can upset the internal balance alarmingly. By killing not only the bad bacteria but the good bacteria as well, there are no good bacteria remaining to kill off the yeast fungus as you ingest it, leading to a likely infection.

Have You Got a Systemic Yeast Infection? – What to Look Out For

There are two main types of yeast infections, one is a common yeast infection which is experienced in the mouth, vagina or sometimes in the digestive tract. The other type is a systemic yeast infection and although rare they can be deadly. Did you know that systemic yeast infections or yeast infections are speculated to affect 80 – 90% of the population?

When someone gets a systemic yeast infection this means that the fungus has entered the blood, thus it can now be transported to all of the major systems and organs in the body. For this reason the fungi can cause problems in a number of different areas and you never know where it is going to strike.

The spread of this life threatening fungus may be the cause of the majority of diseases and illnesses and we get it from the antibiotics we take, the food we eat and in some cases the environment we live in. It is estimated that 45% of people who contract systemic yeast infections die. In some cases systemic yeast infections can be caused by injecting the yeast straight into the blood by using dirty IV needles or devices like urinary catheters or IV ports.

Far too often people who suffer from systemic yeast infection do not take the necessary steps to discover the causes of their symptoms and may simply think they are unlucky for being struck down with a certain disease. Unfortunately, many of them don’t know that they could both cure and prevent future reoccurrences of this disease simply by modifying their diet.

A yeast infection occurs when the immune system is no longer able to kill the fungi at the rate at which it grows. These fungi usually include candida albicans or candida tropicalis, both can grow into epidemic proportions and run riot in the body causing a number of severe medical problems and diseases.

There are multitudes of different ways in which a yeast infection or systemic yeast infection can manifest and infect the body. They can seem alarming as you probably would not relate the following diseases with a yeast infection, but beware. Some of the diseases include irritable bowel syndrome, chrons disease, heart disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, gout, asthma, mental depression, eczema and high cholesterol.

It is far too frequently that the causes of these diseases go “unknown” and that when treated through diet and lifestyle alterations such as exercise, the symptoms appear to go away and the disease leaves. A worn down immune system, plus the presence of a fungus without an immune system to destroy it equals the spread of the fungus and bad news for the body.

One really frightening statistic is that most people have never heard of a yeast infection or systemic yeast infection. You could have been living with a yeast infection for years and not know about it, meaning that you have been dealing with symptoms for a long time and become accustomed to them. Some symptoms such as anxiety and depression can be even harder to diagnose as a yeast infection which is why they so often go undiagnosed.

Identifying Symptoms of Candida to Get the Right Treatment

If you are unfortunate enough to be suffering from symptoms of candida this means you have an overpopulation of a specific type of fungi (candida) which can cause a variety of symptoms depending on which area of the body the infection lies.

You need to look at the causes for this infection as this will relate to the treatment path that you undertake. More often than not, the symptoms are relatively easy to treat. So what are some of the symptoms you may experience if you have candidiasis?

First of all it depends on which area of the body you have the infection, the areas most prone to candidiasis are the mouth and the vagina – both are warm moist areas.

Fortunately enough, symptoms in these areas are easily recognised; in the mouth you will notice thick white patches which look like curdled milk and also pain upon eating and perhaps swallowing, in the vagina you will also notice a white cheesy discharge and perhaps pain on urination and sexual intercourse.

These symptoms can be downright uncomfortable and if they are recurring then it is impacting on your daily life. The fortunate thing with candidiasis in the mouth or vagina is that the symptoms are pretty easy to pick up on, especially when you have had it before, or have spoken to someone else who has been a past sufferer.

You can treat either of these areas, either using drugs or naturally, and doing so may get rid of the symptoms but you also need to take other precautions to prevent a reoccurrence. Find out more about the causes of candidiasis in either of these areas during your treatment process so that you don’t get it back again. For example, vaginal candidiasis is often caused by sitting around in wet swimwear, wearing tight pantyhose, exercising for long periods of time in sweaty clothes, taking antibiotics or taking the oral contraceptive pill.

Here is the one you need to look out for; candidaisis in the digestive or intestinal tract will give you symptoms that are a lot harder to pick up and the infection can be a lot more destructive to your body.

The main problem is that because it has probably been there for so long by the time it is diagnosed, the symptoms will have grown quite severe without the sufferer realising what it is that is wrong with them. Some of the symptoms that are experienced as a result of internal candidiasis include thrush, vaginitis, diarrhoea, rectal inflammation, flatulence or bladder inflammation.

If these symptoms don’t seem bad enough then in the extreme the body’s own immune system can turn against itself causing symptomatic fatigue, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, depression or irritability. This usually happens because the yeast infection allows toxins to invade the body.

If you are experiencing this form of candidiasis you need to have a serious look at making major lifestyle and dietary changes to get rid of it and prevent reoccurrence. This can be a long process but the symptoms will continue if you do not act. As you can see, the longer you leave the infection growing for, the worse the symptoms become. To properly diagnose candidiasis and to eliminate any other illnesses as possible causes it is best to speak to a qualified medical practitioner.

Candida Die Off Symptoms – Your Need to Know Guide

While there are many factors that can cause a candida infection, there are also many ways to treat it and minimize the agony of candida die off symptoms.

What are the Symptoms?

Candida die off symptoms can vary from anxiety to depression, nausea, dizziness, headache, fuzzy thinking and even angry outbursts. The body itself would feel pain, muscle and joint pains, sore throat, fatigue, chills and the need for more sleep. It can cause diarrhea or constipation… All these can make you feel as if you are getting worse instead of getting better after the treatment. However, this should not be seen as a negative effect – this is a sign that the yeast or the bacteria are dying off and are being expelled out of the body.

These candida die off symptoms are only temporary and should not be looked at as a sign that the person is getting worse. These are proofs that the treatment is indeed working and is good for the body somehow.

How Do I Get Rid of Them?

There are many ways though to minimize the tormenting candida die off symptoms. Water can help flush out the toxins, soaking in a bath tub of warm water can help as it draws out the toxins through the skin. Regular exercise can cause the toxins to be carried away through sweating, at the same time, can also be a good way to feel better emotionally and mentally.
Depending on how long the bacteria has resided in the system or how much it has built up, candida die off symptoms can last for days or even months. This also depends on the strength of the antifungal medicine used which defines the intensity of the symptoms.

What Causes Candida Die Off Symptoms?

Candida infection is often treated through detox and body cleansing. If you would go for a candida detox to get rid of the yeast and the infection in general, the result can be tormenting and uncomfortable. After the body goes through a candida detox, toxins are produced in a rate so fast that the body cannot dispose of it right then and there. It is for this reason that candida die off symptoms can be detrimental and can make a person feel worse for a short span of time.

Candida Advice – Lay Off the Sweet Stuff

It’s true that most people love anything sweet – desserts in particular, ice cream, chocolates… just about anything. What you should know about too much intake of sweet food, be that made of refined or unrefined sugar or even artificial sweeteners is that it can contribute to weakening of the immune system. A weakened immune system makes the body susceptible to bacterial or parasitic attacks and fungal infections. Candida is one form of fungal infection that usually goes along with a weakened immune system. It feeds upon sugar and having such infection would cause a person to crave for more starchy food or sugary sweet food.

Last Tip – Health is Wealth

Believe it or not, but proper diet and regular exercise are still the best ways to stay fit and healthy. A strong immune system does not only prevent you from getting a candida infection, but also from any other infections and diseases. Too much of anything is bad, true… be that eating too much sweet or fatty food. Staying healthy is the key.

Recurring Yeast Infections

While recurring yeast infections are seemingly one of the most frustrating and difficult to rid medical conditions you could think of, they are in fact simple to cure and to prevent future recurrences. Anyone who is suffering from recurring yeast infections, also known as candidiasis, is simply not making the lifestyle changes necessary to combat the problem.

From an outside and informed perspective, it is very annoying to hear people say that there is nothing they can do about it or that they will just take a course of drugs to clear it up each time but not make any other alterations to their diet or lifestyle. Short term treatments are not the answer for long term recurring problems; treat the problem on a day to day basis and you won’t keep getting it back. In some scenarios, the yeast infection can return with a vengeance following a course of medication as the yeast is being continually fed by the food the sufferer is eating so when the medication is stopped the yeast is ready to go.

First off, let’s look at recurring yeast infections in areas like the mouth and vagina, warm moist areas on the surface of the skin that easily fall victim to the common yeast infection or “thrush” as it is often called. Taking birth control pills, taking antibiotics, using female deodorants, wearing non-cotton underwear, wearing tight pantyhose and sitting around in wet swimwear are all possible causes for a yeast infection. Obviously, the best way to prevent this is to either stop taking birth control pills or antibiotics or to stop wearing or using products which give you these infections. Of course you can treat with drugs and then continue to repeat the same patterns of behavior but it is likely that you will get another yeast infection sooner rather than later.

A yeast infection in the digestive system is by far the most difficult to detect and most serious as there is a sign that the balance of bacteria in the gut is not right and this can cause a range of symptoms. These effects can include uncomfortable bloating and gas, headaches, nausea, anxiety, depression and joint and muscle pain to name a few. The only way to truly get rid of the yeast which has grown in your stomach to a level beyond it’s normal balance with other “good” bacteria is to starve the yeast. By this I mean eliminating yeast feeding foods from your diet, killing the yeast and then flushing out the toxins. Foods such as breads made with yeast as well as processed sugary foods and alcohol such as beer and wine need to be pretty much entirely eliminated. If you are truly suffering from the spread of candida fungus in your gut then even consuming one alcoholic beverage could restart the yeast infection all over again along with the symptoms.

This may all seem a bit daunting, you may feel as though life as you know it is over and that socializing and eating out will never be the same again, but just give it time. Once you have freed yourself of your current infection and remained candidiasis free for a good few weeks or couple of months then you can begin to reintroduce a few foods that you eliminated. Reintroduce these one at a time to see if you get any nasty effects from them, if something does happen then you know which food it was as you would have only made one small change.

If you don’t make some lifestyle changes the news may not be good, chronic cases of recurring yeast infections can lead to diabetes and chronic urinary tract infection. Similarly, if the areas in the mouth and vagina are not kept properly i.e. wearing the wrong underwear or sitting around in wet swimwear then you may be faced with recurring yeast infections.

Candidiasis Symptoms

Candidiasis symptoms are extremely variable amongst individuals so don’t be alarmed if you speak to people who have also suffered from candidasis but have experienced totally different symptoms to you.  Once you have decided to take the path of candida die off you could also possibly be in for a slightly rough ride, depending on the severity of the candidiasis in the first place, and also on the rate of die off. While there are symptoms of candidiasis there are also symptoms of candidiasis die off but that is something to read about separately.

Getting back to the topic at hand, candidiasis symptoms are different depending on which area of the body is affected and it is going to be more serious in some areas than others. Some areas of the body present with symptoms that are easily picked up and diagnosed such as in the vagina and in the mouth. Note that these areas are both warm and moist and it is this environment which encourages the growth of candida. While neither of these areas are pleasant to have a candida problem, experiencing candidiasis in the digestive tract can become more serious as it is often left misdiagnose or undiagnosed.

Candidiasis in the mouth include the presence of white patchy lesions on the tongue or in other areas of the mouth. If you are really unlucky these sores may be present in the throat making swallowing extremely uncomfortable. Candidiasis symptoms in the vagina (commonly referred to as thrush) can include redness, itching, pain upon sexual intercourse or urination and a white discharge.

If you suffer from a poor immune system due to past disease, poor diet, or from taking antibiotics then candidiasis symptoms are likely to spread to even more areas on your body. While this can seem a bit daunting, you need to look at the reasons why this is happening and if it is from poor diet then simply changing your diet even a small amount will have an effect as less candida will spread if they are not being fed. If it is antibiotics then a healthy diet should assist in returning to normal levels once the course has been taken. Long-term antibiotic use may need to be taken in conjunction with a lot of good bacteria containing foods to keep the levels of good bacteria up. Antibiotics cannot differentiate good from bad bacteria so simply kill all bacteria which means there is nothing to keep the candida population under control. It is for this reason that candidiasis spreads.

Each day can be different for a candidiasis sufferer who may wake up one day with incredibly sore muscles and joints which are completely gone the next day and replaced by pain in the digestive system. This can make it frustrating and difficult to monitor as you are never sure of the exact cause of the symptom. If you believe that it could be candidiasis try making some dietary changes to start with and see what happens. But remember, if you go through a rapid die off phase by making major changes suddenly then expect to experience subsequent symptoms from candida die off, as with most changes in the body, gradual is more effective long term, so while you want to get rid of the candidiasis symptoms quickly, remember to kill it a little gradually to avoid unwanted die off symptoms.

Upon successful elimination of your candidiasis, you can begin to reintroduce some foods back into your diet which you removed to kill the candida. A really good word of advice is to do this gradually so that if you do again experience a symptom you can likely trace it to a specific food and then eliminate this food for good from your diet. It may be that all of the food you eliminated were not contributing to the symptoms and spread of candida. Therefore, you can reintroduce some foods without any repercussions while others could completely set off the spread of candida once again. It is far better to be a little strategic and reintroduce gradually then you can lead a much easier life than being on a roller coaster of frequent candidiasis episodes with their accompanying symptoms.

Candida Die Off

You have gone all out; you have done everything you can with your diet to cut out any candida feeding foods and drinks only to find yourself in a worse physical situation than when you had the candida problem! Don’t fret, this is happening because you have wiped out your candida population, and at such a rate that the toxins produced from the die off cannot be eliminated by your body at the same rate as they are killed off.

The bottom line is, what you have done has worked, just a little too well. When a person is suffering from an overproduction of yeast in their system they usually undertake major dietary changes or take anti fungal treatments to bring the problem under control. Some people experience the symptoms of candida die off for a few days while others may experience the symptoms for weeks or some may experience them whenever they make a dietary change.

It is important to consider what is actually going on inside your body when you have candidiasis. There is a fungus growing in there which will continue to grow if you keep feeding it. In order to get rid of it, it must literally be “killed” which is done by starving the yeast/fungus.  As a consequence, when the fungus is starved and “dies” it doesn’t simply disappear. Along with the die off comes the production of toxins which are let loose in your system. It’s ok, they can’t hurt you too much but the body has its own process of elimination which can’t be sped up. Therefore, if you kill a lot of candida in one hit, you are going to have a lot of toxins to eliminate. People who are sick of suffering from candida usually embark on drastic dietary changes by removing all yeast containing foods from their diet, by this I mean breads containing wheat, sugary foods including a lot of fruits and alcohol such as wine and beer. As a consequence, where they were previously feeding the candida fungus and making it grow, now it has nothing to feed on so it all dies at once causing a toxic overload on the system.

Watch out for the symptoms of candida die off as some can be quite nasty and include nausea, headaches, dizziness, gas, bloating and joint and muscle pain. So while experiencing these symptoms is good in some ways because it means the yeast is dying, it can be debilitating to some people and interfere with their daily schedule. For this reason it is often better to put your body through the process of candida die off gradually so the system can flush the toxins out without experiencing overload. You wouldn’t use an explosive to kill a few weeds in your garden, so don’t do the same to your insides. There are still ways to get to manage the issue without putting your system into overdrive.

Anti-fungal treatments are also responsible for candida die off but if you are going to use these then use them in conjunction with dietary changes. Look at it this way, if you fail to do this you are killing the yeast with the treatment and then simply feeding it at the same time with what you are consuming. It makes no sense whatsoever to take a treatment and then undo all the work it is doing by eating the wrong stuff.

So the picture should now be a little more clear, candida die off is a good thing but too much die off in one hit means you have to deal with some undesirable symptoms. Do the killing of gradually and you might get away with no symptoms and you will still ultimately rid yourself of your candidiasis.
